Is this another morning?
duties and responsibilities;
and limbs that are fatigued,
mourning.
can it be postponed, this morning?
silly, sun doesn’t count you.
But can the mornings be a little
delayed?
to get an extra time to catch
breath,
to run through the errands?
Just the day before;
the man next door died
he was able, earning and robust.
The whole place mourned.
His family devastated.
Then I remember;
the middle aged lonely man
of yonder, died.
Nobody seemed to be bothered
He was ill and he was alone.
How is life valued?
Just like empty cans are thrown
and full ones are treasured?
The soul inside can sense,
even in fatigued body.
So how is life valued?
With priorities, like this is more
efficient,
and that is not?
My cute little cat died.
Many tears shed, flooded,
the ideas for a weekend.
I saw one dog, limping; on road,
its hind leg cracking,
with every movement.
Nobody cared.
So how is life valued?
Like this is desirable,
and that is undesirable?
Life is a puzzle, somebody said;
a riddle, a mockery,
a stupid’s tale.
This flower here,
is still spreading fragrance;
the one I planted on my window,
without questioning and answering.
Stupid?
A very deep and thoughtful poem. Very sad to think sometimes about the way life can be valued or not andaboutsome pele who die without much notice at all.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary...and yes it is sad....I don't know how my poem is balanced..still in doubt...but it just came in...

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Grace..
Deletedef one to turn our thoughts...the value of life and our ability to see it...poignant as well considering the recent news....well penned for sure....
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian.....
DeleteYou've got me thinking, Sreeja! Indeed, it's a thought-provoking poem. An everyday observation questioned in words... captured magnificently. Keep writing, gal. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend.....
DeleteOh My! How wonderful and brilliant, repeated questions taken into my heart and not about to leave my mind. For the neighbor, friend, known and unknown, pet--we care and then mourning comes, but the days roll on and on. The rituals, the stopping for however long, is for us and a few close loves. This is one of my favorite parts:
ReplyDelete"Just like empty cans are thrown
and full ones are treasured?
The soul inside can sense,
even in fatigued body."
Oh yes, if we listen, we will be there to honor a passing, to give a life a few minutes. This part reminds me of this verse in song:
"Tin can at my feet
Think I'll kick it down the street
That's no way to treat a friend."
'Oh yes, if we listen, we will be there to honor a passing, to give a life a few minutes.' Susan sometimes when you comment....I just feel so happy...your above words are so true...
DeleteThis poem signifies the difference between seeing life as invaluable or valuable. An invaluable thing is often overlooked instead of appreciated, the other (value added) is appreciated for the additions that make it more appealing. These kind of prejudices toward "things" lies at the very base of our human nature. We assign worth to everything we see, we are judgmental, and often calloused to those things that have no importance (value) to us. Sad, but true. Very nice handling of the subject.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much....and yes your words are so true....it will take a herculean effort to change that way.....
DeleteThis flower here,
ReplyDeleteis still spreading fragrance;
the one I planted on my window,
without questioning and answering.
Stupid?....not stupid at all...i think that flower is wiser than we are at times..
Thank you Claudia....these lines give me a soothing after writing all those things.....
DeleteSo thought-provoking, powerful. At the onset, you think it's going to be a light poem about all we all struggle navigating the morning and then you slam us with the reality of death and ask us to reflect on the value of individual lives. Wow!
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you so much....you honored me....
DeleteWow, what a universal thought. You have complete balance here, in the way that we weigh what is valuable. I hate to be pessimistic but in a way I think it is a mockery, a stupid's tale since so many lives are lived without comfort and hope(e.g.: sudden spread of disease or children born to war-torn countries)and they still have to carry their days out without relief. And then, I think that our lives are eternal, within the cycle of cosmic flow,and maybe that is where your flower comes in, spreading and dissolving and re-blooming and fragrant once more. Sreeja, this is an exceptional piece, thank you for questioning this way.
ReplyDeleteThanks Archana....your words so resonate with my thoughts....thank you so much...
Deletewhere is the balance? - i love love love this poem, beautifully stated and the questions from an obviously sincere heart... and i love the concluding lines, about the flower
ReplyDeleteThank you so much..I am in cloud nine....
Deleteit is a complex world. we are lucky aren't we.
ReplyDeletehopefully we can share the luck a little.
Yes we are lucky and must share it.....thank you so much....
DeleteI really found this so beautifully expressed, at the heart of life, so open to the questions that make us feel once again fragile and beautiful life is. Your questions are only unsettling if we cut ourselves off to life and its contradictions. The conundrums of pain and indifference that must shield the human soul, otherwise perhaps too much pain would crack the world wide open to joy.
ReplyDeleteOh what an expression...you are right...thank you so much....
