When you
pull me from here
I feel
gross, I belong here
yes I know
it is bad to daydream
but it is
more than a coffee, to beam
you said
chores to finish on time
but I want
reason to escape, grim
shady dungeon
of selfishness,
that’s the
world that comes in DAILY,
daily I die
a bit, my fellow dwellers of earth,
more than
half of them is mad, they mirth,
on others
blood and tears, they dearth,
what we
call humane, but just rotten flesh.
DAILY said
sitting too much reduces life
yes I know
we sit too much and they,
they work
hard running riots over humane
we sit and
daydream, and in executive chairs
it takes
guts to make impressions and changes
we are but
a few, week and meek, have families.
We sit too
much and life span gets shorter,
Of humanity
and, and all that we daydream.
i think we need those daydreams to extend reality, to be able to step outside a bit and look at life with new perspectives, get creativity on how to solve the real problems but there is a thin line and it takes much balance to walk it wisely...really like your poem, in the middle part it had a bukowski feeling as well
ReplyDeleteThank you...its a honor...to have this comment....yes it will take much balancing....
ReplyDeleteI agree with Claudia, it is all a delicate balance between, keeping our dreams alive but, trying to life in reality and making those dreams come true. It's our dreams and hopes which keep us moving forward.
ReplyDeleteIt does take guts to make changes and that's the difference between being a sheep or, being the shepherd.
Lovely writing Sreeja :)
Thank you....and I like your words of being a sheep or being a shepherd.....that is something for thinking....
DeleteNice take on dreams and life ... too real :-)
ReplyDeletei agree...it is a fine line...we need these escapes, these dreams to make the other bearable at times, but we need the other to fuel them as well, to make the dream more possible...
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian....so true....
DeleteFinally I have visited your blog, and I see your "About Me": "This is a humble try to keep the creative part of me from getting lost." It is a task re"placed" in this poem and,I think, achieved in your art, poetry and responses to others.
ReplyDelete"When you pull me from here
I feel gross, I belong here" you say,
and by the end we know the truth of this--you must express to all the world what you humanely must reject and what is under the "sit too much." I love the feel of protest and the feel of dialogue, the use of the Daily News, "madness" "mirth" "rotten flesh" and etcetera . . .
Thank you Susan for your valuable time and mind......I too must say that you always take the poems in its right mood ...that is a gift indeed.....
ReplyDeleteThere is so much truth, reality contained in the lines of your poem ... nice writing!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Helen....
DeleteWhat I liked the best was the emotions one could fit in a simple study like "Sitting less may expand your lifespan"
ReplyDeleteNice work, Sreeja!
Best line was:
"We sit too much and life span gets shorter,
Of humanity and, and all that we daydream."
It covered the gist of your thoughts and emotions. :)

Thank you so much VJ.
DeleteDo poets simply dream their lives away, while others produce works more concrete than words? Who's to say which legacy might last longer?
ReplyDeleteNever Kerry....I didn't meant it that way...the 'we' are the people who think and are in the righteous part....the 'they' who runs riots over humane, are those who think less and do more harm to the world. Poets, indeed their legacy will last longer, cos' without great inspiring thoughts and beauty only logs can survive.....I didn't meant Poet by 'we'..sorry if anything hurt you...
DeleteKerry you made me think...to pack things in a more delivering way...thank you so much.....
DeleteOh, I catch holy ol' heck for sitting here dreaming in words...balance yes but losing the muse over differing opinions is a no-go. thought-provoking and well written poem, sreeja. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much...without dreams we may get tired soon....little deeds for the future generation may make that balance...
DeleteSreeja, the ending is very strong. Yes, sometimes we all 'sit' too much and don't work hard for changed...and yes, as we sit, our lifespan does get shorter. We have to work for change while we can. I always enjoy your work shared with Poetry Jam; and thanks for your commenting on other blogs as well, which enhances our community!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much...and most welcome that is my pleasure...
DeleteThank you so much......
ReplyDelete'We sit too much and life span gets shorter' lines holding lot of meaning.
ReplyDeleteIn this context, don't you think a little bit of time wasted for the 'greater good of creativity' is necessary? for the ignition of that one spark which will bring about a huge change?
Nice poetry Sreeja :)
Yes of course....but the key is BALANCING between things........thank you so much.....
ReplyDeleteThe line that really grabbed me is "Daily I die a bit," I truly believe that all the negativity in the world, all the hatred and intolerance and violence, slowly kill our souls one news story at a time. But you're right, balance is the key.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this thought-provoking poem with us over at Poetry Jam this week!
