Sweet thoughts interrupted...

Windchimes in a rainy window
© Gemma Wiseman

Elephant riding thoughts of fairy tales
The twinkling chime has smiling paths
Merry your way through it, it is endless
Her pinky frock, the frills neat and cute
He has many elephants to ride to fame
Their laughter and play fill the world
The green grass and buds on top, sweet
The drizzle that washed the chime, changed
the tune and the mood, they made tents
no complaints but play with the tune.

There are other elephants too
The chimes that sounds eerie too
Fear takes in sometimes, fear for
her neat and cute frills, his elephant rides
they are playing, growing, do they know
all the evils that lurch from behind
hide in corners, that don’t know cute smiles.
And the “elephants”, they are dwindling
Their green pastures disappearing,
the fairy land losing to machine like dwellings.

  1. How do you do this, Sreeja? You words seem so casual and random yet they paint the picture beautifully. Everything is so connected and thoughtful. :)

Great work on the prompt. :)

  6. I so agree, it is so sad! These creatures are like gentle giants. They need to be treated with respect~
I like that you blended these two!

  8. Cause for smiles and magic, cause also for fears and sadness: the land for elephants is dwindling and with it their place in fairy tales and good fortune. You take this little girl with her frills to both places, giving her an education she will never forget.

  9. I love the music of wind chimes too :) also elephants. I hate that man keeps building and taking more and more of their lands away. Yes, they are dwindling because they can't find food anymore and they can't roam freely because man is taking their land.
    A lovely write Sreeja :)

  10. "sweet
The drizzle that washed the chime, changed
    the tune and the mood,"

I love the idea that the drizzle changes the tone...how very perceptive to go into that layer of the image with your poetry. Beautiful poem!
