I am the northern wind, sweeping
in the white snow,
My prey lies low, hidden in shrubs,
wild flowers and snow.
From here I see the white fox
defending his home from red;
It’s getting warm, my snowy abode,
my identity, invasion by red
And green, I prefer my angelic
coldness, but it’s melting pink.
Dry, cold and windy that is my
abode and your carbon sink.
My pride, my majesty the beauty
you can gaze on
Lies only here, in this white
paradise that is going down
I am the northern wind, sweeping
in the white snow,
As I sit here hatching my eggs
with him, its melting, slow,
change?
:) his thats very strange I just put some pictures of the snowy owl .. exactly same as this one :)
ReplyDeleteand thanks for the Vote :)

Bikram's
Yup I too was surprised by this....:-)
DeleteWhat is happening with the polar ice caps melting is scary because, it's happening so quickly now. That is a beautiful picture but, you have captured its plight and that of others who depend on the ice for survival like the beautiful Polar Bears and Penguins. A really vivid, thought provoking write Sreeja.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.......
DeleteThat first line really drew me in, and I like the repitition of it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.....
Delete"Dry, cold and windy that is my abode and your carbon sink."
ReplyDeleteOuch! Endangering the northern wind and its beauties surely hurts me too.
Dry, cold and windy ..I got it from some Tundra Googling.....yes really shocking to know about it.....
ReplyDelete"I am the northern wind, sweeping in the white snow..."
ReplyDeleteLove it.
Thank you so much....I am honored..
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful imagery. Truly scary to think of these creatures losing their habitat.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly beautiful, and captures the entire endangered ecosystem so powerfully. WONDERFUL writing!!!!!! I so love the owl photo!
ReplyDeleteYou have penned down the issues of nature so well ... loved it Sreeja ... really eye-opening !!!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me a lot of Mary Oliver's poetry. In fact, she has a book entitled Snowy Owls...Beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteWe all should be concerned about environment - Both outside and within. And they are connected.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful thought here put so well.
"I am the northern wind, sweeping in the white snow,"
ReplyDeleteThis and the repetition point of this was purely affecting, Sreeja. You've captured the majestic qualities and brought a great flavor of its point of view. Such a good read and I'm glad that you also adress the endangerment of this magical bird also. Well done!
I like this written from the point of view of the wind. Quite a unique idea. Beautiful owl.
ReplyDeleteThe wind sees so many landscapes and the northern winds of the tundra almost own and shape those landscapes! Beautiful poem!
ReplyDeleteNice work... Keep blogging :)
ReplyDeleteWhat drew me in was the picture... the owl is a majestic creature, at least it looks like one. And your poem was equally powerful.
