White Majesty

                                                                  ( Google images)

I am the northern wind, sweeping in the white snow,
My prey lies low, hidden in shrubs, wild flowers and snow.
From here I see the white fox defending his home from red;
It’s getting warm, my snowy abode, my identity, invasion by red
And green, I prefer my angelic coldness, but it’s melting pink.
Dry, cold and windy that is my abode and your carbon sink.
My pride, my majesty the beauty you can gaze on
Lies only here, in this white paradise that is going down
I am the northern wind, sweeping in the white snow,
As I sit here hatching my eggs with him, its melting, slow,
                                                                                 change?

  2. What is happening with the polar ice caps melting is scary because, it's happening so quickly now. That is a beautiful picture but, you have captured its plight and that of others who depend on the ice for survival like the beautiful Polar Bears and Penguins. A really vivid, thought provoking write Sreeja.

  4. "Dry, cold and windy that is my abode and your carbon sink."

Ouch! Endangering the northern wind and its beauties surely hurts me too.

  11. This reminds me a lot of Mary Oliver's poetry. In fact, she has a book entitled Snowy Owls...Beautiful poem.

  12. We all should be concerned about environment - Both outside and within. And they are connected.

  13. "I am the northern wind, sweeping in the white snow,"
This and the repetition point of this was purely affecting, Sreeja. You've captured the majestic qualities and brought a great flavor of its point of view. Such a good read and I'm glad that you also adress the endangerment of this magical bird also. Well done!

  16. What drew me in was the picture... the owl is a majestic creature, at least it looks like one. And your poem was equally powerful.
