Elixir

Here I walk on the grass so wet and fresh, my foot sinks deep;
a rain just washed the nature fresh and distills through my foot.
Longing for the rain, so deep, thoughts liquidize and spread out.
Bones and marrow, they stay solid, cheating liquescent dreams.
Fire of sun and truth of water grows like skin to live, to live!
Like butterflies, spirit flutters around the gentle life, the skin of earth.
Like birds of prey, sense hovers and watches secrets winding here.
Smiling faces, loving words, floats and brings in homeward dreams;
grass, birds, trees, and deer- they paint rich strokes, parts of being.
I bequeath this glass of water, crystal clear, from my blood
to you, my child, walk slowly, breathe deep and don’t spill.
This is life; here I am always everywhere and this, from my blood;
keep it safe, carry until you bequeath it to honest hands
for I want to live here everywhere, always, yes, this, my blood,
a glass of water, crystal clear.

  5. How interesting sreeja, you turned water into a person it seems. Somebody doling out the precious liquid where it is most needed.

  6. What beautiful writing, my favorite of yours, so far, I think. A wonderful bequest: one's blood, water, and a beautiful poem.

    Elixir indeed! Mixing food and drink and skin and sun and bones and marrow, One forgets the borders of the cocktail and it becomes all of life!

    Be sure you bequeath it to honest hands! Yow!

  11. I love this, Sreeja. It makes me think of some of the best nature poets...and here's hoping that the water we bequeath will be pure.
