Yes, smile!

Yes, smile!

red chairs in a row,
a girl, a lady and an old widow,
waiting, waiting for their turn.

my eyes are sore,
a scar, a wound and the woe,
the woe to suffer, to taste bitter life.

the girl, my past,
the lady, my present,
the old one, my future?
Waiting, waiting for their turn.

Seconds, minutes and hours,
dreams, pain and struggles;
add, add to what?

The man in the stretcher,a hole and
a pipe in his neck, precious body:
a mole, a tool or a mere carcass at last?

Stream the thoughts, change the matter---
a blue sky hosts a white cloud-show,birds
and a stream that flows with brimming melodies.
                      but,
I know clouds burst lightnings too, and streams,
they flood and washes everything in too.

One mocks the other, a matter of chance;
chance or luck, life or death, a dilemma.

A toddler walks in, he smiles, laughs;
the giggling laugh of life, it flies and
catches on, on to every face... .
a full stop to all dilemmas, a smile,
a smile, a smile, beautiful!

  2. Yes, laugh. What else can we do? And the changes do not come unexpected--though I think the waiting does. I choose not to sit and wait, but to toddle around at all ages. Smile!

  4. This is really excellent, Sreeja. These are my favorite lines:

    Seconds, minutes and hours,
    dreams, pain and struggles;
    add, add to what?

    I wonder the same thing occasionally. It all adds to what! Life passes so very fast,doesn't it? Those seconds, minutes, hours roll on by.

  5. Life is so many questions wrapped up in minutes. I used to spend so much time thinking of the future. Now I just live in each moment I am given. Beautiful piece Sreeja!

  6. The questions asked were perfect, Sreeja. Thoughts beautifully conveyed.

    But, hey, could you please change the 'Reactions' to your poems? I want to give you something better than just 'interesting'. :D

  11. To me it's more an ode to time and its strong hold on all things mortal. Watching it and taking everything in a happy stride with a smile makes things much easier, isn't it!

    Your usage of abstract always astounds me, great!
